Boulder, Colo.-based national cannabis company Terrapin Care Station will now serve recreational customers and medical patients at its newly-renovated retail location at 5370 Manhattan Circle in South Boulder.
The company revealed its plans to serve adult-use consumers on the heels of an announcement from Longmont city officials last week that Terrapin Care Station was awarded one of four new adult-use retail licenses. Coupled with the expansion of the South Boulder store, Terrapin Care Station is now able to serve the needs of a population of Boulder County that currently lacks a wide selection of recreational cannabis storefronts.
Boulder residents over the age of 21 will now have a convenient location in the southern part of town, while Denver commuters will have a place to quickly stop directly off of U.S. Highway 36 on their way to and from work in Boulder. Surrounding Boulder County communities without recreational access also will now have a convenient place to shop.
“South Boulder and the Eastern County cannabis consumers need more options, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring the people what they want: More choice and affordable prices,” said Chris Woods, founder and owner of Terrapin Care Station. “We’ve had a lot to celebrate lately at Terrapin, including our new license in Longmont. But there’s something truly special about being able to expand in the community in which we started. We look forward to continued growth in Boulder County.”
The South Boulder location becomes Terrapin Care Station’s second recreational location in Boulder. The existing location at 1795 Folsom Street was Boulder’s first licensed recreational store.
The newly-renovated store at 5370 Manhattan Circle began as Terrapin Care Station’s first location, founded in 2009. Woods would sleep in the 1,000-square-foot medical cannabis space in the early days of operations, dedicating his entire life to starting a cannabis business in an uncertain time for legalization. Nine years later — with recreational marijuana sealed in the Colorado Constitution — Woods is ready to expand services at his beloved first location.
The remodeled space nearly doubles the square footage to just under 2,000 square feet, allowing Terrapin Care Station to serve more customers with speedier service. There are twice as many registers in the store, along with separate accommodations for medical consumers, such as a new consultation room, so that patients receive the same high level of care they have grown accustomed to at Terrapin Care Station.
“It’s been a wild ride,” Woods added. “Sometimes it’s surreal thinking back to the days when it was just me in a small leased space in South Boulder trying to start one of the nation’s first marijuana businesses. I’m blown away by the progress Terrapin Care Station has made over the past nine years, and I look forward to continued growth.”
